Can I complete a training course in Germany?
Under which conditions can I then remain in Germany?

The dual training is a unique opportunity in the German speaking region to learn a profession. The interested young people (under 25) learn the profession directly while working practical in a company. In addition, they regularly attend a vocational school, where they receive both academic education and basic subjects such as German, Math, English, etc. An education is mainly in the craft sector like for carpenters, plumbers, bakers or hairdressers. A training usually lasts three years.

With the approval of the Federal Employment Agency not EU citizens have the opportunity to obtain a residence permit in the framework of vocational training. You receive this residence permit only if you have an appropriate training contract in Germany. To make a training in Germany at all, it is at least an advantage to have a middle school degree after nine years and some knowledge of German. Although people in your company might speak English or another language, the trials and the lessons are held in the vocational schools are in German. Each company decides on their own which qualifications they expect from their candidates.
